1st Generation Computers?

Hi I was just wondering if some one out there could give me an answer on my question. What was the Primary Storage used in 1st Generation Computers and what was the sencondary storage used? If you have a link that would be fantastic.

Thanks

It depends on what you consider to be a 1st generation computer. I was looking at an interesting article on early computing devices - starting with the mechanical devices to adding and subtracting numbers - from several hundred years ago.

The first "bug" was in a computer that was being used either during or after WW2.

sheets of paper / cards, magnetic tape, hugh low capacity hard disks were probably the order that storage evolved.
reel to reel magnetic tape was used in computers long before floppy disks.

Also vacuum tubes were used before the microchip was invented.

I would say vacuum tubes were the primary storage and magnetic tape was the secondary or backup storage.
First generation computers? Well, it depends on how far back in history you go. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_...

While the first PCs had 8" floppy drives, earlier units saved data to cassette tape, paper tape and (very early) hard drives.
