Connect 2 computers to same network with different OS?

Hi,

I have a desktop that runs on Windows Vista and a laptop that runs on Windows XP. They both share a broadband internet connection...the ethernet port of the modem is connected to the laptop and the USB port of the same modem is connected to the desktop.

I want to create a local network in which both computers can share. They have the same workgroup name. I ultimately want them to share the same printer that is connected to the desktop.

This depends on your version of Vista. Vista home or media won't cut it. You will need business or premium to get this done. A router is a preferable method to this issue
