How many computers can i install windows vista on using one product key?

My and two other friends are thinking of spliting the cost of Microsoft Vista. I read that you could install it on up to 3 computers, if so then this is a great purchase. I just wanted to check and see if anyone else knew the answer.

Yes, if you buy 1 boxed copy, you can get additional electronic licenses cheaper

If you need reliable up to date operating systems, there are many available that are free. Add BERYL to get a really cool look.
You could do it, although it's legally dicey. It's supposed to be one product key per household. Splitting it with friends who don't live with you could be a violation-not that anyone cares
It's up to 3 that can be registered at the same time.
You can only activate it on one computer. Because of piracy, Microsoft has set it up so that you have to connect to their servers to activate Vista within 30 days. When it connects, the server makes sure that the key you're using isn't already in use. If it is, it won't activate on a second computer. The computer will not really be in a usable state at that point, because when it's not activated Vista goes into reduced functionality mode - it deletes your desktop shortcuts and start menu and won't do anything but connect you to the microsoft store online.

You can purchase additional licenses cheaper than buying another install disc, though. Maybe the three of you could chip in and buy the one set of media and then buy individual licenses. I believe there is also a family pack sold with multiple licenses.
