Will Windows 98 work on newer faster computers?

I'm talking about computers with faster CPU's and more RAM and more advanced motherboards. Or does Windows 98 only work on older, slower computers?

I ask because I have several software programs that only work with Windows 98 and it would cost hundreds of dollars to get the same programs all over again for my computer that has Windows XP Home Service Pack 2.

Thanks!!

In general, no. The problem is not the speed of the computer, but that there are no 98 drivers for most new hardware devices out there. Windows 98 also has significant problems with more than 1 gig of RAM.

Most Windows 98 programs can be run just fine in Windows XP. Right-click the program, select ''Properties'', and go to the Compatibility tab.

If you would really like to get Windows 98 running on a new computer, ask for help here:

They love nothing better than running Windows 98 on new hardware and ''sticking it to the man.''

Do you have access to any newer version of windows? such as XP? If so, have you tried installing and running your software there?

I ask because there's a way to run a program in ''compatibility mode'' in both XP and Vista. Basically, once you've installed the program in XP, right click on the program executable or its shortcut and go to the ''Compatibility'' tab. And under ''Compatibility Mode'' check the ''Run this program in compatibility mode for:'' and select ''Windows 98.'' Click Ok.
