How many computers are in use in the united states?

I am writing an essay on how computers have robbed citizens of their privacy

A consulting firm called Diebold (not to be confused with the safe company of similar name) estimates that there are over 35 million computers of all types in use in the USA.

Part of the problem is that it's difficult to know what a computer is and what it isn't. A bathroom scale is an analog computer. Traffic lights have digital computers in them. These days, machine rooms are filled with computers but no display (they're servers).

On another front--computers don't rob citizens of their privacy. The problem is that there is no privacy from nongovernment agencies. The only "privacy" in the constitution is regarding gov't search and seizure (which isn't privacy). The biggest mistake is that people mistakenly believe there's supposed to be privacy.

If someone doesn't have privacy to begin with, then how can it be robbed?
